Enhance you product performances by trimming

Laser trimming is a way of achieving precision alteration of the attributes of an electronic circuit by laser cutting. A laser removes material from the appropriate component and thus adjusts its value. A lateral cut into an SMD or hybrid resistor increases its resistance. Removing part of the top electrode of a capacitor decreases its capacitance.

High precision by laser trimming

During trim process the relevant parameter is measured continuously and compared with the nominal value. The trim cut stops automatically when the target value is reached. Resistance, voltage, current, frequency - with suitable measuring equipment any output parameter can be trimmed. If the parameter cannot be measured continuously the trim is done step by step.

A laser trimming system speeds up, automates and increases the accuracy of your trim application. LS builds a system from modules, customised to your requirements, providing optimum cost and performance. LS supplies modules for integration into OEM systems or production lines, as well as complete stand-alone systems with instrumentation, electrical contacting and automated handling.





The LS software runs under Windows. The programs can be generated flexibly in a flow chart. Simple, configurable interfaces permit the seamless integration of external systems as well as the connection to higher level host computers. Parameter and command items using configurable dialog boxes facilitate programming and reduce programming time.


Image processing

Finding the exact location of the component to be trimmed is achieved with the aid of video techniques. This can be as simple as edge sensing, area seach or using a geometric model finder. Optimised search algorithms guarantee short process times. Adjustable video data enables an optimum picture of the work piece. Corrections of x, y and angular tolerances are made automatically via adjustments to the laser beam and the handling. The optional co-axial lightning optimises the image processing for highly reflecting materials such like silicon or gold.
